UPDATE: Crews get handle on wildfire above Chimney Beach at Lake Tahoe

UPDATED 6:18 p.m.:

The Thunder Fire is in "mop-up status" after local, state and federal firefighters responded. No injuries were reported, and no structures were in danger, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The cause of the fire is being investigated. 

UPDATED 4:11 p.m.:

The Thunder Fire was reported just before 3 p.m. and is less than 1 acre, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. "Firefighters currently have a hose line around fire perimeter and forward progression has been stopped."

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is reporting Highway 28 is closed from Highway 50 to Chimney Beach on the east side of Lake Tahoe for a wildfire. Traffic is being turned away.
